Customize It

With the weather getting much better I have been wanting to spend more time outside with Covid-19 keeping us inside for the past year and a half. Since I am a second semester senior and looking to graduate in May I also have had a lot of work to complete. My creation for this blog was a walk-closet+ standing desk so I can both store extra clothes that do not fit in my small college room and do all of my work outside and in the great Champaign weather.

The first part of my customization was pretty simple, and is the crate underneath that provides the standing desk with stability. My room this year does not have much space in the closest and does not have a dresser, so I have had to keep all of the clothes I do not really wear but still need outside in my “walk-out” closet. This ended up helping me out with the standings desk because it gave the desk it’s very much need stability and support.

The second part of my walk-out standing desk is the twenty-dollar bedside table that I bought 4 years ago. I put this on top of the crate and put my laptop and whatever else I need to finish my work on top of the bedside table. The great part about this desk is that If I want to sit down I can just take the desk off and bring my desk chair out onto the balcony.

Although my room is small and does not have space, I am extremely happy that I have such a nice balcony with such a great view of Champaign. If you look the other way there is a view of Downtown Champaign. Luckily the weather has been much more mild this year compared to the past so I have been able to use this desk for a long time. During Covid-19 I was not able to leave my house at all because my parents are a little bit older and are at serious risk. Coming down to campus kind of helped this situation but since I go home every couple of weeks, I was also left in isolation until I received both of my vaccine shots.

This post was based on Ferguson’s Idea of remixes that we have learned about in our class. He believes that everything is a remix, and I am starting to see what he means by this. All ideas have been executed in one iteration or another throughout history. Even songs that may seem very unique have common similarities with past songs and share things like tempo, beat and other things. In my opinion his idea depends all on the definition of what a remix is. At the beginning of this class I had a hard definition of what a remix is and I was just thinking of direct inspiration but now my definition of a remix is much more loose. Overall this TedTalk was very interesting to me and made me notice similarities between objects, songs and movies that I normally would not have.
